Kick off California's Water Awareness Month
in Monterey County, the Water Awareness
Committee of Monterey County, Inc and Del
Monte Shopping Center will be presenting the
first-ever Water Awareness Day Celebration!
Through hands-on activities, demonstrations
and entertainment, residents will learn about
water-wise landscaping and gardening, and
participants will be introduced to other ways
they can be good stewards in Monterey County.
This "edutainment" event will be a fun and
exciting family friendly celebration with
interactive activities amidst the beautiful,
drought-tolerant demonstration gardens at Del
Monte Shopping Center! For more information

MPC Jazz Concert with Mark Sherman
(vibraphone, guest artist)

Music Hall at Monterey Peninsula
College
3PM to 5PM, our guest artist, Mark Sherman
(vib.) will join the MPC Big Band for a few
numbers and then play a set as a quartet with
Dan Robbins (bass), Billy Jones (drums) and
Eddie Mendenhall (piano). Mark Sherman brings
original compositions and so does Eddie along
with famous standards. There is a $10
suggested donation at door to support this
program.
Fair Dance Party

A special Aces High at the Fair Dance Party
with Mike Beck & The Bohemian Saints and
Fundraiser for the 2010 Monterey County Fair
Youth Invention Contest will be held on
Friday, May 7th at 8:00 PM at the beautiful
Turf Club at the Monterey County Fairgrounds,
2004 Fairgrounds Road, in Monterey. The event
will feature a no-host bar and appetizers. At
the event, attendees can donate to the
501(c)3 Friends of the Fair to help
underwrite the cash prizes for the Fairs
special youth invention contest this year.
The admission cost to the dance party is $8
per person in advance and $10 per person at
the door, $5 with military ID. Open to age
21+. Advance tickets can be purchased online
at montereycountyfair.com or at the Fair
office at the corner of Garden Road and

More than the Open: A History of Golf in
Pebble Beach

Open: A History of Golf in Pebble Beach
presented by Neil Hotelling. Wine and cheese
will be served before each lecture. There is
2-hour free parking for residents (who show a
local drivers license) in the Fishermans
Wharf parking lot. The lectures are free for
members of Monterey History & Art Association
and $10 for non-members.
Presenter Neal Hotelling is considered one of
the leading specialists in the Monterey
Peninsulas heritage. He is currently the
Director of Licensing and Special Projects
for the Pebble Beach Company. He serves as
Executive Editor of Pebble Beach: The
Magazine and oversees the companys
historical archives. He researched and wrote
Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official
History, which was awarded Golf Book of the
Year by the International Network of Golf.
Monterey Rock and Rod Festival

County Fairgrounds
Fourth annual festival featuring classic and
custom pre-1972 cars as well as live
entertainment throughout the weekend. Sock
Hop kicks off the festivities on Friday
night. Saturday the car show ensues along
with live rock bands. Saturday evening
headliners are The Shirelles with Beverly Lee
with Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon as opening
act. Sunday on stage will be Big Sandy and
HIs Fly-Rite Boys as well as other live
entertainment throught out the day. Presented
by Gateway Center of Monterey County, a local
501(c)3 corporation benefitting the
developmentally disabled adults of Monterey
County.
American Le Mans Series Monterey
May 21 - May 23

Raceway Laguna Seca
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of four race
tracks to have played host to the American Le
Mans Series (ALMS) event in each of its 12
seasons. The event moves from a four-hour
season finale race in October to a six-hour
enduro in May. The race car drivers coming to
round three of the ALMS will be challenged by
the undulating 11-turn road course at Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca with an endurance race
into the darkness, complete with fireworks.
MPC Spring Concert

Our regular spring concert will happen on
wednesday May 26th at 7:30PM. This concert
will begin with the MPC Jazz Improvisation
Class playing standards from the jazz
repertoire, and continue with the MPC Big
Band, directed by Eddie Mendenhall. The band
will play an exciting medley of big band
classics. We hope you will join us for a
diverse and exciting evening of jazz. Free
